Pilot Season – Week 1 – Ori and the Blind Forest

On Friday I mentioned my intent to return to the wonderful world of Let’s Play series on YouTube, but that to make things interesting and leave it to the audience to decide which series they’d like to go with, I would imitate Amazon on its Pilot Season, where they show the first episode of potential TV series, picking the most popular to go forward at the end of the preliminary season. Final Fantasy IV – Episode 10 – More Gimmicks!

Wow this Final Fantasy IV episode took some effort to record. My first attempt ended with a sudden power cut, leaving me in the dark for nearly five hours.

When the power returned, I recorded the episode, going for a bit longer than usual as I tried to end the episode with win over a boss, for once! But alas, the Dark Elf proved too strong for that to happen. Continue reading Final Fantasy IV – Episode 10 – More Gimmicks!

Final Fantasy IV – Episode 9 – Lose your temper, win the fight!

New week, new Final Fantasy IV episode. This week we pick up where we left off. As it’s become tradition in this playthrough, I ended the previous episode by dying to the latest boss, yet another Archfiend sent by Golbez to stop us.  Continue reading Final Fantasy IV – Episode 9 – Lose your temper, win the fight!

Final Fantasy IV – Episode 8 – Shifty Eyes

And we’re back! In this episode of Final Fantasy IV, we get things ready, buy some items and other fun stuff and find the back door into Baron castle, intent on rescuing Rosa from Golbez and now-heel Kain. But things, as usual aren’t as easy as we thought, with former allies turning on us–again–and obvious villains coming out of their shells–pun intended, you’ll get it when you watch the episode! Continue reading Final Fantasy IV – Episode 8 – Shifty Eyes

Final Fantasy IV – Episode 7 – Going Glam!

Let’s kick off this week with a new episode of our Final Fantasy IV playthrough! Last time we had a bit of a shaky trip thanks to the inopportune Lord of the Seas. Leviathan, leaving us near Mysidia, a place Cecil hit in the opening cutscene in the game and where the populace are less that warm towards him, but after taking their crystal and cutting innocent Mysidians down, the Dark Knight is not about to complain.

The Mysidians, as you’d expect aren’t in a giving mood, but give Cecil a chance to rid himself of the dark blade at Mt. Ordeals, to become a paladin. And that’s what we’ll be doing this episode, first finishing the pressing business of Golbez’s archfiend, Scarmiglione! Then it’s time to ditch the Batman act and turn to Glam Rock as a Paladin, with flowing wavy hair and pure 80s goodness! Continue reading Final Fantasy IV – Episode 7 – Going Glam!

Final Fantasy IV – Episode 6 – Plot Mountain

Whoo boy was that an eventful Final Fantasy IV episode last week! Made it through the mountains, met a monk, killed bombs and their mothers and mounted a pathetic and futile defence against the Baron Red Wings in Fabul.

Kain turned heel on us and tried to kill Cecil, and we finally saw the big baddie Golbez take the stage, his sombre presence as awesome now as it was the first time I played the game. This isn’t a mocking, taunting Final Fantasy enemy, this is one that takes care of business, or at least sets one of his trusted generals to do it for him. Continue reading Final Fantasy IV – Episode 6 – Plot Mountain

Final Fantasy IV – Episode 5 – Fabul-ous!

Last time on Final Fantasy IV we explored the Antlion cave, fought the big monster in its lair and collected the Desert Pearl for Rosa, healing her and finally getting a proper healer for the party. But of course, it wasn’t that easy, not with the Antlion hitting like a freight train and me hitting it when set to counterattack.

But a bit of exploration, a new weapon and a save point later, the party had all they needed to take down the beastie! Continue reading Final Fantasy IV – Episode 5 – Fabul-ous!

Final Fantasy IV – Episode 4 – Exploration is Good!

And we’re back with another weekly episode of Final Fantasy IV.

Last time around, in Episode 3 of Final Fantasy IV, we finally made our way through to Damcyan where we found the castle under attack by Baron’s Red Wings, there to take yet another Crystal for their mad King. Inside the castle we found Anna, Tellah’s daughter, but she passed away soon after. Tellah tries to take out his frustrations on his son in law, the Damcyan Prince and Bard, Edward, but soon his attention shifts to the real menace, the man they call Golbez. With vengeance on his mind and fire in his eyes, Tellah storms out in pursuit of Golbez, leaving our party without its powerful spellcaster.

Later in the episode, Edward joins up and we explore the Antlion nest and upon reaching the heart, we found the Antlion isn’t as docile as Edward claims and the new boss kicks our butt with finesse. Continue reading Final Fantasy IV – Episode 4 – Exploration is Good!

Final Fantasy IV – Episode 2

Last week had a lot going on in the first Final Fantasy IV episode. Departed from Baron, blew up Mist, rescued the little girl summoner, Rydia and even made it to Kaipo, only to discover that Rosa had somehow made it there as well, in record time and with desert fever!

So that’s where we are in this episode, going through the Aqueduct towards Damcyan, to get the Sand Pearl, the only medicine in the world that can save Cecil’s beloved White Mage. Continue reading Final Fantasy IV – Episode 2

Overwatch – Season 3 Placement Matches Done!

After 10 matches, ten mostly terrible matches, I made it through the placement stage for the latest season of Overwatch Competitive, with a 3 win, 7 loss record and a 2000-ish rank.

As it tends to happen with Overwatch competitive, you sometimes have amazing matches, where even if you lose, it’s an intense fight from start to finish. And sometimes, you have a team filled with abuse-spewing nincompoops who focus on themselves and not the overall team effort yet find ways of making everything other people’s fault. I know I screw up, a lot, and I can accept that and move on, learning from my mistakes, but I’m continually shocked at how people refuse to accept their parts in a loss, opting for just vitriol to hide the fact.  Continue reading Overwatch – Season 3 Placement Matches Done!
