VAMPYR – Prologue Commentary

Vampyr released yesterday, a new game by DONTNOD, a developer that continues to impress me with their ability to tackle different genres and play styles. To say Vampyr has been on people’s radar is one hell of an understatement, it certainly was on mine. So, is it good, or does it at least have a compelling opening? Time to find out! The Lawful Geek – Returning to Video

I apologise for the corny and somewhat dramatic title to this article, but the others were much worse. If you’ve kept up to date with the happenings of my YouTube and Twitch channels, you might have noticed there hasn’t been much, if any, activity over the past few months, with only a gameplay demo for a Kickstarter game. There are reasons for that and plans in motion, so stick around and I’ll let you know the details!

Dungeons & Dragons Christmas Binge

When Christmas Eve and Day come, no matter where we are and who we are with, alone, with bad company or annoyed at having to spend time with relatives we only see once a year, there will be copious amounts of food and then that period where you’re so full your body will almost shut down, depositing you on the nearest sofa or bed and making it impossible for you to move. Your brain will follow suit and leave you in a state where intellectual pursuits are nigh impossible. Board games will be too complicated for you. You will only be capable of watching stuff. Why do you think there are so many boring Christmas movies and shows? Because they know they can peddle them to you when you’re in this state.  Continue reading Dungeons & Dragons Christmas Binge

Let’s Cancel – Hollow Knight

I really don’t even have to say it, as there hasn’t been a new episode of my Hollow Knight playthrough for a long long time. Part of it is due to the changes I mentioned in the past weeks, but there were other important reasons.

Firstly, I just didn’t feel like playing the game and the more time passed, the less I wanted to do so.  Continue reading Let’s Cancel – Hollow Knight

If so, look away, as this article is a no holds barred discussion on running a website that gets thousands of visitors. This isn’t going to be pretty, as I share the ups and downs of running a website on WordPress, the most popular blogging platform. Boy, did I ever make a lot of mistakes?

Let’s Play Hollow Knight – Episode 2

So there we have it, Pilot Season is over, the polls are closed, the votes tallied and out from the shadows comes the brand new, reigning, defending, undisputed Let’s Play Champion, Hollow Knight! This is the game I’ll be playing for the foreseeable future, doing my best not to record episodes while I’m sleep deprived…starting from episode 3.  Continue reading Let’s Play Hollow Knight – Episode 2

The Lawful Geek Stream – Best of August!

Last month, as I’ve mentioned a few times in the past, I finally got back to broadcasting on Twitch on a schedule as well as to recording Let’s Plays. The pilot season is over now and we have a winner, but that’s not what today is about.

In August’s streams I made a fool of myself in Overwatch matches, with the occasional moment of glory. I fought Lovecraftian Metroidvania bosses in Sundered, explored ancient Indian ruins with a couple of badass ladies and even fought the chaotic Rabbids in the Mushroom Kingdom. Pilot Season – Last Week to Vote

A few weeks ago I once again recorded episodes for Let’s Play series for my YouTube channel, setting up pilots for you all to vote on. Hollow Knight, Ori & the Blind Forest, Dead Cells and Shiness: The Lightning Kingdom. These are the games I’d like to run a Let’s Play for, but I will only go on with the one you choose.

The polls have been open for a while now and they will remain so until this Sunday, when I’ll pick the winner and push on with the second episode of a new series. As of writing, Hollow Knight is at the front with 60% of all votes, with Ori & the Blind Forest and Shiness: The Lightning Kingdom following behind with 20% each. It doesn’t seem like people enjoyed Dead Cells very much.

If you haven’t voted, here’s a recap of every pilot, along with the episode so you can check it out and make up your mind. Above all, I hope you enjoy them! You can find the poll at the bottom and on The Mental Attic’s front page!

Pilot Season – All Candidates

It’s certainly been a few good weeks for my Let’s Plays. I’ve had the chance to get back into it, not only recording these episodes for YouTube and editing them–though mostly it was sound I edited, there wasn’t much to edit on the video side for these–but also on the broadcasting front. I’ve found a nice schedule that works for me and let’s me be live on Twitch for three days a week, playing games and building plastic models. Continue reading Pilot Season – All Candidates

Pilot Season – Shiness: The Lightning Kingdom

For the past few weeks I’ve gone over my little Pilot Season, inspired by what Amazon does with its proposed series. Each week I’ve shown you the first episode of a proposed Let’s Play series on The Mental Attic’s YouTube channel.

The first one was Ori and the Blind Forest, followed by Hollow Knight and last week Dead Cells. Well, I’ve left the weirdest for last. Continue reading Pilot Season – Shiness: The Lightning Kingdom
