The Lawful Geek Stream – Best of August!

Last month, as I’ve mentioned a few times in the past, I finally got back to broadcasting on Twitch on a schedule as well as to recording Let’s Plays. The pilot season is over now and we have a winner, but that’s not what today is about.

In August’s streams I made a fool of myself in Overwatch matches, with the occasional moment of glory. I fought Lovecraftian Metroidvania bosses in Sundered, explored ancient Indian ruins with a couple of badass ladies and even fought the chaotic Rabbids in the Mushroom Kingdom. Pilot Season – Last Week to Vote

A few weeks ago I once again recorded episodes for Let’s Play series for my YouTube channel, setting up pilots for you all to vote on. Hollow Knight, Ori & the Blind Forest, Dead Cells and Shiness: The Lightning Kingdom. These are the games I’d like to run a Let’s Play for, but I will only go on with the one you choose.

The polls have been open for a while now and they will remain so until this Sunday, when I’ll pick the winner and push on with the second episode of a new series. As of writing, Hollow Knight is at the front with 60% of all votes, with Ori & the Blind Forest and Shiness: The Lightning Kingdom following behind with 20% each. It doesn’t seem like people enjoyed Dead Cells very much.

If you haven’t voted, here’s a recap of every pilot, along with the episode so you can check it out and make up your mind. Above all, I hope you enjoy them! You can find the poll at the bottom and on The Mental Attic’s front page!

Pilot Season – All Candidates

It’s certainly been a few good weeks for my Let’s Plays. I’ve had the chance to get back into it, not only recording these episodes for YouTube and editing them–though mostly it was sound I edited, there wasn’t much to edit on the video side for these–but also on the broadcasting front. I’ve found a nice schedule that works for me and let’s me be live on Twitch for three days a week, playing games and building plastic models. Continue reading Pilot Season – All Candidates

Platformers – The Bullet Hell Factor

Last night during my Twitch broadcast–trying a new schedule–I played Outland and Rabi-Ribi, two Metroidvania-style platformers and while playing them I noticed something I hadn’t before, even as a fan of the platforming genre and the metroidvania subgenre and it’s how often these games have bullet-hell elements, where part of the challenge is to avoid countless damaging projectiles as part of traversing the environment and defeating the bosses placed in front of us.

Let’s Play – Pilot Season!

No, there isn’t a game called Pilot Season, at least I don’t think there is. But you know how Amazon has that yearly Pilot Season, where they stream TV pilots so people pick the ones that will become full fledged series? I’ve decided to do the same thing with Let’s Plays.  Continue reading Let’s Play – Pilot Season!

Gunpla – Star Winning Gundam Build

Early this week I got a package from Japan, my Christmas present to myself, 5 new Gunpla models: Continue reading Gunpla – Star Winning Gundam Build

Final Fantasy XV – First Impressions

My Tuesday began very early, as I had trouble sleeping and woke up at around 5am. Having deleted my old Playstation Network account because I moved countries and you can’t change it in your existing account, I decided to create a new one, pay for Playstation Plus and all that jazz, but I also remembered that Final Fantasy XV, the latest in Square Enix’s long-running series released that very day, so I also bought it, downloaded it and left it all ready to go for the moment I was done with work for the day. Continue reading Final Fantasy XV – First Impressions

Gunpla – Freedom Gundam Build!

Last Friday, as promised I streamed the build of my latest Gunpla model on Twitch. It took over 6 hours to complete, though most of those were spent on fixing mistakes, particularly on the Railguns, which I kept putting together the wrong way around. Continue reading Gunpla – Freedom Gundam Build!

Gunpla – Gundam Models – The Second Build

A couple of weeks ago I spoke of the first Gundam model, aka Gunpla, I built, the Freedom Gundam. At the time I mentioned I would be building a second Freedom, but one from a much more recent version of the kit, with a better-designed skeleton and parts for better articulation and posing.

Well, that build is happening tonight. From 7pm GMT onwards, on the Lawful Geek Twitch channel, I’ll be building this second version of the Freedom Gundam from Gundam Seed.

Freedom Gundam Master Grade v2
This is the box, it looks amazing!

Much like the previous one, this Gunpla build will be a Master Grade kit, with tons of parts to cut and piece together but also a lot more freedom when it comes to putting the finished product into a cool pose.

I won’t lie to you, I’ve already gone ahead and given the instruction manual a nice read-through, finding it very familiar to the first Freedom Gundam model I built weeks ago. This one just has a few more pieces and plenty more decals.

Hobby knife and cutting mat
The tools of the trade!

I’ve also already built the base for it, included with the rest of the pieces. I just couldn’t resist doing so. In fact, it’s getting much harder to resist the urge to just sit down and build this new Freedom Gundam in one go, but with work and life responsibilities, it would be bad for me to spend a work day evening on just this, which is why I’ve managed to hold on until today, Friday, as I can take as long as I need to finish the model, or at least work and stream until I fall unconscious–which would be bad considering I’ll be handling some very sharp objects!

So, if you’re interested in Gundam or Gunpla, or just model kits in general, then come check it out at 7pm GMT (that’s 2pm EST) on my Twitch channel, LawfulGeek.
