Oldies & Goldies – Games on the Let’s Play List

I couple of weeks ago I mentioned I was getting ready to once again record/broadcast game playthroughs, with a chosen focus on older games. At the time I mentioned a couple of titles, and since then I’ve acquired other titles to tackle, both through recordings and live playthroughs on twitch. Let me tell you a bit about them Continue reading Oldies & Goldies – Games on the Let’s Play List

Countdown to Nintendo Switch – Top 5 Zelda – Skyward Sword

And we’re yet another week closer to the launch day for the Nintendo Switch and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. My body is ready, and I’m prepared to leave work at the stroke of five and lose myself in the beautiful land of Hyrule once more.

Last week I spoke of my 5th game in the Top 5 favourite Legend of Zelda titles, Ocarina of Time. Today, let’s look at number 4: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Continue reading Countdown to Nintendo Switch – Top 5 Zelda – Skyward Sword

Horror Games – Halloween 2016

It’s Halloween! It’s time to trick, treat, go out, have fun, get candy from the neighbours and give respect to those living on the other side of the veil between our world and weirder ones.

It’s also a time for horror films, horror games and all things creepy, crawly, spooky and altogether ooky. On my end, I have a long list of horror films I’ll be enjoying tonight, plus a giant collection of H.P. Lovecraft stories to go through so my eerie evening is ready to go.

But it wouldn’t be Halloween in The Mental Attic if I didn’t share something with you, if I didn’t give you a little something for this most sacred and scream-worthy of holidays. So over the weekend I recorded a couple of short videos on some really fun games for you to keep an eye on: Continue reading Horror Games – Halloween 2016

Total Disasters – Metroid: Other M

Metroid: Other M, on the Wii is by far the worst game released in this long-running series, critically panned and an absolute failure in every sense of the word. Even I wrote a scathing review for another site once upon a time, though you can’t find it anymore.

Some of you might not have played this entry and while I usually urge people to do so with any game, I’m not cruel enough to send you to Other M. I wouldn’t do that to my worst enemy, and I have some appalling stuff planned for them. It’s that bad.

So instead I’ll tell you just why it’s so bad, why it’s considered such a step down and back for the series and the worst possible sequel to both Super Metroid and the Metroid Prime Trilogy.

For this, I’ll focus on two things: Gameplay and Writing (characters, pacing and plot). Continue reading Total Disasters – Metroid: Other M

Under Control – Best and Worst Gamepads I’ve Used

I’ve been a gamer for decades now and ever since I have memory, I’ve been playing games. From an Atari and an Intellivision back in my childhood to a PS4, Wii U and a PC today, I’ve handled quite a few controllers and keyboard designs. Some of them I found very comfortable, I could play with them for hours and it wouldn’t matter. Others were the opposite and it tired me to hold them for too long. Finally, there’s a small subset of gamepads that I thought would be uncomfortable as all hell but in reality were kinda nice!

Let me tell you about them. Continue reading Under Control – Best and Worst Gamepads I’ve Used
