This is How We Role – Episode 6 – The Titanroot of all Evil

It’s time for another episode of the ongoing D&D Campaign on our little show This is How we Role, set in my original campaign setting of Telia. This time it’s a rescue mission inside the forest of gargantuan trees in the Almun region, Titanroot Woods, dealing with the threat posed by a Coven of Hags, not just on the city of Woodwork but on the denizens of this forest.

Starting with this episode, I’ll use this post to give some behind the scenes look at the adventure design and planning.

This is How We Role – Episode 5 – Out of the Woodwork

Here we are, brand new episode and finally just hours after we played the game! And it has nothing to do with me not having anything else written. Continue reading This is How We Role – Episode 5 – Out of the Woodwork

This is How We Role – Episode 4 – Singing in the Brain

And so we’re back with another session of the Telia campaign, this time with the party delving into the mysterious Vault in the Almun region, after having opened it at the end of the last episode. Will they succeed in overcoming the Inheritor challenges? We’ll see! Continue reading This is How We Role – Episode 4 – Singing in the Brain

This is How we Role – D&D 5e – Telia Episode 3

Third season (and technically 2nd video) of the new D&D campaign. We pick up where we left off, with the party hot on the trail of a missing archaeologist, but their trip is about to get more complicated when things from Alexander’s past come to visit and a strange new creature stalks them on their trail.

This is How we Role – D&D Telia – Episode 2

IT HAS BEGUN!!

After about a year and change of planning and plotting and scheming and writing down a bunch of lore for the world, my little campaign setting, Telia—pronounced Teh-Lee-Ah—is finally alive. We started the campaign nearly a month ago and it was my wish to bring you the first episode right after we recorded it, but unfortunately, due to some technical mishaps, the footage was unusable. Fortunately, we worked out the issues for the next session, so here’s the second episode of This is How we Role – Telia! Continue reading This is How we Role – D&D Telia – Episode 2

Twinned Reviews: Super Daryl Deluxe & Azure Saga: Pathfinder

In the past few weeks I’ve played my fair share of RPGs, so much so that they seem to be my main genre at the moment. I’m still playing through Xenoblade Chronicles 2, still battling the many multiverse forces in Super Robot Wars V in anticipation of Super Robot Wars X’s English version release in a week or so and recently I finished building a Facebook kingdom and battling ancient evil in Ni No Kuni 2.

But for today and in the spirit of trying something new in terms of review formats, I bring you my reviews of two recently released RPGs. The first, Super Daryl Deluxe, is a Metroidvania-style RPG, with an interesting comic book style look, mostly black & white but with colour used to highlight important stuff, that seems heavily inspired by Napoleon Dynamite. The second, Azure Saga: Pathfinder, is more of a traditional RPG with square interconnected tiles serving as dungeons and random encounters.

To make things better for you, to help you get the relevant information you need I’ve decided to break up the reviews in easy to consume bullet points for each of the games. Will I continue with this style moving forward? I don’t know, but it’s worth a shot as an experiment! One thing I do know is that scores are out the window. Extra Life 2017 – Prizes and Games

Hello everybody and welcome to October, one month and a day to Extra Life 2017 and a day of pure tabletop role-playing gaming goodness.

As I mentioned before, unlike my last participation and that of most people, I will not be taking part of the event broadcasting a series of videogames from dusk till dawn to collect your hard earned money for the amazing cause that is the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, specifically the McMaster Children’s Hospital, but instead I and some talented friends from around will join together to play tabletop role-playing games for you, putting our players through the paces in epic adventures for your entertainment. Extra Life 2017 – RPG Time

In 2015 I participated in Extra Life as part of the Team Tomb Raider Community. I played for about four days in a row, more than 12 hours a day trying to raise $500 for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Sadly, I couldn’t quite meet the goal but I had fun streaming, playing old games in one sitting and working as part of that great team.

In 2016, between moving from Ireland to England and settling in and everything that comes with it, I couldn’t take part in Extra Life, but this year I’m definitely doing it. On Saturday November 4th I’ll be once again doing my best to raise money for charity. But unlike 2015, the plan this time around is a little bit different. Dungeon Master Writer – How RPG Storytelling can improve your writing – Part 2: Adaptation & Characterisation

Weeks ago, I spoke of how much I enjoy storytelling and my love for being a dungeon master. I do really love creating and playing in fantasy worlds and taking players through perils and adventures.

But even though I consider myself a storyteller first, writer second, the art of storytelling, specifically being a Dungeon Master—or any kind of RPG narrator, again just using one of the most popular titles—has had a profound impact on my writing, as I’ve learned many things in taking people through the theatre of the mind.

I began this series last week with lessons on Knowing your Audience and Sensory information. Here’s part 2 for your enjoyment!
