Review: Era: The Consortium

I first heard of Era: The Consortium during MCM London Comic Con earlier this year, I had the pleasure to speak to the Shades of Vengeance guys about their new RPG system “Era”, of which The Consortium was the most fully realised product, serving as perhaps the flagship title at the event.

A few weeks later, I received a review copy for Era: The Consortium, but at the time it was impossible for me to get a game going, but thanks to my recently formed RPG group, I had the chance to play a demo game and put the system through its paces.

Running in the Shadows – TMA RPG Update

A Few weeks ago I launched a little recruitment drive for an RPG group, and while no one contacted me directly through The Mental Attic, I did manage to get a group together.

With the players assembled, the plan was simple: first, we’d play a demo game of Era: The Consortium, a game I mentioned during my MCM London Comic Con coverage. After that, we’d move to a main campaign with me as the storyteller. Continue reading Running in the Shadows – TMA RPG Update

EGX 2016 – Smash Up & The Little Acre

To close off this week on EGX, I’d like to tell you about two more games I saw there, Smash Up and The Little Acre.

During my short, yet very productive, time in Birmingham last Saturday, I played many more games, but I chose these two as the last ones for my EGX coverage for two main reasons: the first one is that I think they’re pretty neat, each for its own reasons. The second is that just like every other title I’ve spoken of this week, Smash Up and The Little Acre will release very soon.

EGX had some amazing games, but among them, I would rather give priority to the ones you’re going to see on Steam very soon. But don’t worry, I am planning on covering the rest with some in-depth previews as soon as footage or demos are available to do so.

Looking for Group – Recruitment Drive

Hello everybody. I’ve mentioned in the past how much I enjoy playing Pen & Paper RPGS. I love D&D and almost every other system I’ve had the fortune of playing. My recent purchase and review of the Anima video game came from my love of the RPG setting and only last week I wrote a bit of an ode to one of my favourite D&D podcasts/shows, Acquisitions Incorporated.

As The Mental Attic grows and I tap new contacts and opportunities, I get in touch with many RPG developers and publishers and they often send me their products for reviewing purposes and while I at least attempt to get some games together to try things out, I’m rarely successful. Review: The Living Dungeon

There’s an old god trapped in a labyrinth, controlling its denizens and sending them after adventurers. Now it has fresh meat, new fools to make their way into The Living Dungeon.

EGX Highlights – Best of EGX

EGX was a lot of fun, as you’ve been able to see from my previous articles and the many photos I took (though I promise to take even more next time around). I played tons of games, spoke to many developers and as I’ve mentioned in the past, I met new and old friends alike. It was a wonderful experience.

I’m not a fan of “Best of” a given event, as I feel it diminishes the value of every other game that I saw during EGX. But thanks to my friends at 1001Up, it’s public knowledge what my favourite game at the event was, so what the hell? I’ll talk about my Best of EGX 2015. Continue reading EGX Highlights – Best of EGX

RPG Greatest Hits – Issue 10

Here we go, greatest hits: good, bad, funny and everything in between. These are our stories, the ones we tell around the table to our old and new RPG friends and even to those that don’t play. These are our legends, our moments of epic triumph and failure; these are the funny moments that stopped a game short because no one could stop laughing or were too teary-eyed to continue.

As always, if you want to see your stories in a future Issue, just Contact Us and we’ll make it happen! Continue reading RPG Greatest Hits – Issue 10

RPG Greatest Hits – Issue 9

Well, the first thing you might be seeing is I’ve changed the name of the feature. Deciding on expanding it to include a greater variety of stories, Triumphs and Fails seemed rather restrictive so here we go, greatest hits: good, bad, funny and everything in between. Continue reading RPG Greatest Hits – Issue 9

RPG Triumph…and Defeat – Issue 8

Welcome to another exciting issue of RPG Triumph…and Defeat, the weekly feature where we tell the great stories from RPG campaigns, both the amazing and the downright humiliating.

These are the stories, our legends, that we tell all our friends, even if they don’t play.

Today you’ll find a new category of stories: FM – Funny Moments. These are the stories that are just funny, but are neither moments of triumph or defeat.

As always, feel free to contact us if you wish to have your stories featured in the next issues! Continue reading RPG Triumph…and Defeat – Issue 8
