Looking for Group – Recruitment Drive

Hello everybody. I’ve mentioned in the past how much I enjoy playing Pen & Paper RPGS. I love D&D and almost every other system I’ve had the fortune of playing. My recent purchase and review of the Anima video game came from my love of the RPG setting and only last week I wrote a bit of an ode to one of my favourite D&D podcasts/shows, Acquisitions Incorporated.

As The Mental Attic grows and I tap new contacts and opportunities, I get in touch with many RPG developers and publishers and they often send me their products for reviewing purposes and while I at least attempt to get some games together to try things out, I’m rarely successful.

MCM London Comic Con
Era: The Consortium. I still need to review this!

In addition to that, I’m a storyteller. There’s a quote by Rainer Maria Rilke I hold very dear:

If, when you wake up in the morning, you can think of nothing but writing . . . then you are a writer.

When I wake up, I want to do one of three things: Write, Game and tell stories. The last one is often related to the first, but more often than not, just the creation of a story, just coming up with concepts and the basic structure of a plot brings me more joy than I can put into words. And one of the reasons I love RPGs so much is because they let me tell stories, they allow me to sit down in front of a group of people and tell them what I envision, what strange worlds I came up with, or what weird tales I drafted for this particular setting we all know so much.

Because of these two major points, I want to get a group together of four to five people to play with. Levels of experience are irrelevant. As long as you like playing games, as long as you enjoy listening to a story and want to take part in it, you’re more than welcome. I have a few people in mind for this already and I’ll get in touch with them soon enough, but I’m writing this post because if you’re reading this and think to yourself “Hmm, this sounds pretty nifty!” then get in touch through The Mental Attic’s contact page and let me know and I’ll be in touch!

I don’t want the fact that I have people in mind already put you off from getting in touch. I have every intention of playing with everyone who contacts me. Maybe you won’t be in the first game we run, but I’ll have your details and bring you in for the second one, or for a “mid-season” one shot, or the many games I want to run with new systems, for review, preview or even playtest. So get in touch!

And if you’re still unsure, or you’re on the fence or even a bit shy about the RPG experience, don’t worry. I’m planning to record all sessions and post them on the YouTube channel…which of course all players should be aware of and be ok with.

And if you’re wondering about commutes, don’t worry about it, we’re going to play all games using the Roll20.net platform, so we can be at home while playing some fun games. If you want to know more about it, check out the interview I did with the creators!

With my ever-improving editing skill set, I’m planning on adding a few fun things to the videos to make them much more entertaining to watch.

I love this platform!

Right now I’m thinking of running a couple of short games for review purposes, but I’m also drafting up a full campaign. I have a few stories going, just need to decide on the system and setting, but once I have the full group, they’ll help me decide which way we’ll go.

But here are a few possible games we can run, though I’m always open to trying out new systems. And if I can’t run it, then of course one of the other members of the group can take over:

  • D&D 5th Edition
  • Star Wars Saga Edition – the last one by Wizards of the Coast. I truly hate the symbol dice one from Fantasy Flight Games.
  • Exalted 2nd or 3rd Edition.
  • Shadowrun.
  • Pathfinder.

And that’s without including the games I have for review, such as Era – The Consortium, a game I mentioned in the past.

If any of this sounds interesting to you, let me know!

I love everything readable, writeable, playable and of course, edible! I search for happiness, or Pizza, because it's pretty much the same thing! I write and ramble on The Mental Attic and broadcast on my Twitch channel, TheLawfulGeek
