I’ve been critical in the past of the reboot Tomb Raider franchise and at least once, the series proved me wrong. So, despite my criticisms at the ridiculous notion that Shadow of the Tomb Raider was still part of the origin story for Lara Croft, I was hopeful for this new entry in the series.

I went to see Tomb Raider during the weekend. I suspected it would be a terrible film, not just because everything shown so far gave me that impression but because it’s a video game adaptation and they’re usually terrible.

We are nearing the end of the Ultimate Beastmaster Gaming Edition season, based on the Netflix reality show produced by Sylvester Stallone, The Ultimate Beastmaster, where competitors from around the world tackle the most vicious of challenge courses, the Beast. Only 2 more weeks after this and then the grand finale pitting all our beastmasters on a beefed up version of The Beast for the title of Ultimate Beastmaster.
In our gaming edition, there are no coins, rupees or souls to be won, but there is a certain kind of prestige, where one characters steps out of the ruins of the Beast, confident they are the Ultimate Gaming Beastmaster.

On Monday we had second week of gaming contestants make their way through the perilous and demanding course that is The Beast, using all their skills to accrue as many points as they could. Twelve competitors became eight, then five and then the remaining and best two, Kirby and the new rebooted Lara Croft, met face to face for Level 4, with Lara’s climbing skills nabbing her the title of Beastmaster, earning 10.000 of whatever currency they use in the next country she explores. And so we’re back with another compilation, this time on Tomb Raider: Anniversary.
I have to admit my surprise when I tallied up the deaths and found the number smaller than those in Tomb Raider: Underworld. It was a pleasant surprise, even more because in hour-long episodes, the first death often happened after more than 20 or 30 minutes had passed, meaning that for most of the series, I had a pretty damn cool undefeated run. In about six hours, it ends. Can you feel the shift, the weight coming off your shoulders? Just me? Oh well.
Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation has been one of my longest running LawfulGeek Plays series on The Mental Attic’s YouTube channel. It’s a game I started as part of my goal to go through the entire classic Tomb Raider series in reverse chronological order (and yes, for me, the LAU Trilogy is classic Tomb Raider). I took a bit of a break between playing Chronicles and going for The Last Revelation. I found Chronicles infuriating in many ways, so I needed to detox.
And now that I’ve completed it (or will do so in a few hours), I’m going to take another break from classic Tomb Raider. I’ve found Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation doubly infuriating than the first time I played it and even more than its subpar sequel. Yes, it’s a better overall game compared to Chronicles and The Angel of Darkness, but that really isn’t saying much.
