Kitacon – Glorious Geek Talent

I spent the weekend in Coventry, attending my first Kitacon at Warwick University. I had a blast. I haven’t had this much fun in a long time.

I met good friends, had a first time face-to-face and beard-to-beard meeting with a really cool guy and you know what, the universe didn’t explode in the face of such epic an occasion, though the pouring rain had us worried.

I’ll be honest with you. I didn’t attend Kitacon as press. In fact, I didn’t even plan to write this article. I wanted to take the convention in as just another attendee, just for myself and the memories.

But after three days of pure awesome geekness and witnessing not only the great Kitacon community but also the amazingly talented people in cosplay and putting on events and activities, I feel I would be doing them a disservice if I didn’t share some things with you (also, I am so thoroughly exhausted from the walking, standing and travelling that this is the best I can do at 2 in the morning).

Below is a small gallery of some of the best costumes I saw at the Kitacon masquerade plus one or two that I took a photo of along the way. I had many more photos than those below but the quality of the shots wasn’t good enough. My Galaxy S8 has an impressive camera, but it’s not the same as having a professional camera.

Everyone in the masquerade was amazing and I only wish now that I had taken the time to talk and photograph more of them. There were so many cosplayers at Warwick University, including a few GeekOut members in disguise. Makes me want to create my own costume one day, which surely will be a Boomkin!

Enjoy.
