Worth Watching – To Aru Kagaku no Railgun

In the past I’ve mentioned the To Aru Majutsu no Index—A Certain Magical Index in English—and how much I love the world it takes place in, how it combines the idea of scientific research and Espers with magical theories and sorcery, as part of the holy grail of genres, Science-Fantasy. But there is another series I love in that universe, the spinoff, To Aru Kagaku no Railgun—A Certain Scientific Railgun.

The ‘Railgun’ in its name refers to the spinoff’s main character and one of the secondary ones in the main Index storylines, Misaka Mikoto, one of the seven Level 5 Espers, the most powerful super-powered students in Academy City. Misaka is what they call, in the series, an Electromaster, someone who can generate and absorb electricity and use it in a myriad of ways, from throwing out Sith Lightning to generating magnetic fields. But it’s Misaka’s ability to fire a coin from her hand as a highly destructive railgun that earned her the name. Continue reading Worth Watching – To Aru Kagaku no Railgun

Review: Beautiful Bones – Sakurako’s Investigation

Over the past few weeks I’ve been catching up on series I missed in the past months, particularly with Anime. That’s how I found Sakurakosan no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru (translated as Beautiful Bones – Sakurako’s Investigaion). Many sites and forums described it as Bones the animation. As someone who enjoyed Bones until it got too tiresome, I decided to give it a shot.

I was pleasantly surprised. Continue reading Review: Beautiful Bones – Sakurako’s Investigation

EGX Highlights – Tears of Avia

One of the games for which I saw the longest queues in the Rezzed section over the course of my EGX adventure was Tears of Avia, a tactical RPG with anime-ish elements. It’s currently on Kickstarter. I passed by the stall and looking over people’s shoulders I saw bits of the gameplay and it was a style I was familiar with and knew I liked, a style all of you who ever played Final Fantasy Tactics will also recognise. Continue reading EGX Highlights – Tears of Avia

TMA-Approved: Ichiban Ushiro no Dai Maou

It’s been a while since I’ve spoken of some form of media I’ve enjoyed. During last week, I was listening to music at work and I started going through opening themes for Anime I had seen in the past few years and one of them in particular stuck in my head: Ichiban Ushiro no Dai Maou (lit. “The Great Demon King in the Back Row”).

Akuto Sai is just another young man heading to the Constant Magic Academy. His dream is to become high-level clergy in the government and work for the benefit of society. But things don’t go according to plan. New students must take an aptitude test and his came back as “Future Occupation: Demon King.” So of course, the moment the school finds out about this, not only does the overall student body ostracise him but he also becomes a target for everyone out there trying to kill the new Demon King before he powers up. Continue reading TMA-Approved: Ichiban Ushiro no Dai Maou

My Favourite Anime – Issue 3

I don’t often talk about Anime. I go through so much during a given year that I don’t find the time to talk about any one of them in particular. But in the past few weeks I’ve answered a few questions about Anime for someone who’s a complete novice, and it made me think of all those great series I’ve watched in the past years that have stuck with me, and I thought, “Wouldn’t it be nice to write something about them?” So here we are. My Favourite Anime – Issue 2

My Favourite Anime – Issue 1

I don’t often talk about Anime. I go through so much during a given year that I don’t find the time to talk about any one of them in particular. But in the past few days I’ve answered a few questions about Anime for someone who’s a complete novice, and it made me think of all those great series I’ve watched in the past years that have stuck with me, and I thought, “Wouldn’t it be nice to write something about them?” So here we are.

This is the first in a new series of posts. As I said, I go through a lot of Anime in a given year and have seen a lot, so I have to split it into more than one entry.

If you decide to give any of these a chance, I just have one rule/request: DON’T EVER WATCH IT WITH DUB, ALWAYS SUBS! If you don’t follow this rule, we’ll have some stern words! Continue reading My Favourite Anime – Issue 1

Why I love JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure!

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure (JoJo no Kimyō na Bōken) is a long running manga written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki and in publication since 1986. It’s been adapted to videogames and OAVs and, most recently, two anime series with the second one currently airing.

The world of JoJo has Vampires, Martial Arts, Gentlemen, Nazis, 1920s America, 1980s Japan and more and more. This is a series where a Nazi Cyborg shooting lasers from his mechanical eye is not only normal but also expected.

And I love it! Continue reading Why I love JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure!

I watch too much stuff…seriously…

I think it’s time I list everything I see. I’ll focus on this season’s series (or those I’m catching up because I missed the season), because I can’t remember them all. Continue reading I’m into too much stuff…
