One of the biggest surprises for me on Netflix in the past couple of years has been Riverdale. I never expected an Archie adaptation to be as good and entertaining—and dark—and this series has been for the past few seasons. When the people behind Riverdale announced the plans for adapting The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, I could hardly contain my excitement. I had read the comic and found it incredible, a wonderful way of reintroducing a classic character in a horror setting. Continue reading Review: The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 1

Review: Daredevil Season 3
In the wake of the cancellation news for Iron Fist—and more recently Luke Cage—Netflix released the third season of the Marvel superhero show that started it all for the platform, Daredevil, pitting the blind hero against Kingpin once more. Continue reading Review: Daredevil Season 3
Review – Iron Fist Season 2
I disliked the first season of Iron Fist, I thought it was boring, focused more on corporate shenanigans and nebulous villains than on the martial arts badassery the character deserves. So I came to the 2nd season a bit dubious of how good it could be and gotta say, it pays to have low expectations!
This is a more violent season, but also very personal to the characters, with some much-needed character growth. Continue reading Review – Iron Fist Season 2
Review – Ultimate Beastmaster Season 3
It’s a fair assessment that I like the Ultimate Beastmaster. I liked it so much I made an entire theoretical exercise on video game characters running the courses and even crowned a video game Ultimate Beastmaster. It took weeks but it was a lot of fun.
So, imagine my delight when last week I saw the third season was finally up on Netflix with CM Punk and Stuart Bennett (aka Wade Barrett) as commentators for the USA and British teams respectively. Better yet, the entire format of the competition had changed, improving what I thought were the flaws of “the game” as I did the video game character version. Continue reading Review – Ultimate Beastmaster Season 3
Series to Binge – Grimm
I love fairy tales, as much as I love myths. They’re some of our oldest forms of storytelling. They’re full of lessons and warnings, a bit of wisdom retained after the entertainment. They are also almost universally terrifying, despite the best effort of sanitising them by filmmakers and entertainment companies. So, it was refreshing for me to see a TV series not only tap into these wonderful stories, but tap into the horror aspect, reimagining it for a new audience, giving us a vision of the world that was full of awe and terror. I can’t tell you enough, how much I love Grimm. Continue reading Series to Binge – Grimm
Slasher Showdown – Scream TV vs Slasher
Couple of weeks ago I spoke of the TV reimagining of Wes Craven’s horror film series, Scream. Since then, I’ve binged on another similar show on Netflix, a Canadian production simply known as Slasher. But between the Executioner and Ghostface, who’s butchery reigns supreme? Continue reading Slasher Showdown – Scream TV vs Slasher
Netflix Recommendations – Scream TV
Last week while browsing through Netflix, I was in a slasher film kind of mood, specifically wanted to watch the Scream films once more. In their place, I found something even better, the Scream TV series, which I loved the first time on MTV and thoroughly enjoyed on a rewatch, finding new and interesting bits hidden in plain sight! Continue reading Netflix Recommendations – Scream TV
Surprisingly Good TV – The Good Place
Have you ever gone through TV channels or through your Netflix account, looking at the many names of shows and just skipping over them, perhaps with a momentary judgement towards them? Maybe their names seem over the top or the logo seems silly, or perhaps even the genre is not your usual thing.
But then, one day, you’re extremely bored or you read or heard about some of those shows or films and decide, “yeah, I’ll watch the first episode,” and suddenly “how bad could it be?” turns into a day or binge-watching an entire season, or looking forward to the next week’s entry. Continue reading Surprisingly Good TV – The Good Place
