One of the things I keep seeing when people give you recommendations on writing a novel is that you need to have a hook early on. The hook in this regards is that part of your storytelling that glues the audience to your product, and makes them stay until they’ve enjoyed it fully.
The Hook extends beyond publishing of course and it’s perhaps one of the first things people tell new creators about. Your game needs a hook early on, to grab the player. Between Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook—and Google+ huddled alone in a corner—it’s almost unheard of for people not to have some form of online presence. The internet connects us all in one way or another and one thing I’ve always wondered about and which a recent situation brought to my mind is how far some people go to control how others perceive that online persona.
Here’s the situation. An acquaintance recently made his début as a speaker in a technical conference and to get there he studied, bought books on the subject of public speaking and nailed the presentation to be honest. But on the way, the organisers of the event shared his personal twitter— without his permission, which I consider a bit of a no-no, always ask!

I’ve been playing Overwatch for a few weeks now, and last time I spoke of the negative environment in the forums for the game, particularly about character criticisms and the idea of hero rankings. During said article, I took a few stabs at balancing out the character Genji, which as you may have noticed from my highlight videos, is my main character in Overwatch, with the big lug Reinhardt in second place.
Some of the community were instantly miffed of the suggestions about the character, as I expected them to be. It was the whole point of the thing. In reality I don’t think the character needs much in terms of balancing, perhaps just give him some invulnerability during his Swift Strike dash, but that’s out of personal preference and frustration more than anything.
