In 2015 I participated in Extra Life as part of the Team Tomb Raider Community. I played for about four days in a row, more than 12 hours a day trying to raise $500 for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Sadly, I couldn’t quite meet the goal but I had fun streaming, playing old games in one sitting and working as part of that great team.
In 2016, between moving from Ireland to England and settling in and everything that comes with it, I couldn’t take part in Extra Life, but this year I’m definitely doing it. On Saturday November 4th I’ll be once again doing my best to raise money for charity. But unlike 2015, the plan this time around is a little bit different.
In 2015 I played video games but this time around I want to raise money with another form of gaming, tabletop RPGs. For Extra Life‘s day, a few friends and I will be running or playing a series of one-shots for your viewing pleasure. I will run a Dungeons & Dragons game and later on a short adventure using the new edition of Scion, which releases in October. A friend is preparing a game of 7th Sea and I’m still in talks with other DMs, GMs and players to nail down the final schedule.
Each game will run for about two or three hours, and we’ll make sure there’s plenty of things you can change or complicate with your donations. For the Dungeons & Dragons game, you can choose to give a boon to a player, letting them have advantage (the ability to roll twice and keep the highest result) on a roll of their choice or you can choose to introduce a complication, be it a trap, a boost to an enemy or event alter an entire boss fight. The details are still a bit hazy though, but as soon as I have something concrete, you’ll be the first to know!
And of course, there will be giveaways. In the coming weeks I’ll be contacting different RPG developers and publishers and hopefully we’ll have some RPG sourcebook bundles to give to everyone who donates to this important cause.

Hopefully this year we can no only meet the $500 donation goal to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals but completely smash it, and in the process have a hell of a good time playing some fun role-playing games on Extra Life!
