You know me, I’m always up for a good discussion, no matter if it’s games, films, TV series or even books and writing. So, when the crew of Later Levels approached me for a monthly gaming Q&A, hopefully to create some great debates around video games, it didn’t take much for me to see that it could be fun.

This month’s question is: Which is the most surprising plot twist you’ve seen in a video game?
These are those shocking revelations that you just didn’t see coming, that complicate the plot in a good way, adding new layers to the story and its characters and keeping you glued to your seat, desperate to know where the twist will take things.
My pick for this question is the identity of Revan in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Here’s why (spoiler alert…for this 14 year old game):
Throughout KOTOR, you see visions of Revan’s fall but everything makes you think you were just sharing Bastila’s dreams through your budding Force link, and it remains so even as your powers grow. Until you meet Darth Malak and he reveals the truth, that they’re resurfacing memories after the Mind Wipe performed by the Jedi Council. The scene then shifts to a vision of Revan unmasking. It turns your character’s story into something much cooler. And that’s without the implications of the Mind Wipe.
Playing it a second time, you can see through the masterfully subtle hints they drop you.

KOTR’s plot twist was awesome. I honestly can’t think of others that topped it.
