This has been a very long YouTube and Twitch hiatus. I’ve managed to push a few things into YouTube in the past few weeks, but nothing serial or even remotely consistent.
As I mentioned in the past, I have technical difficulties from my Asus ROG Laptop finally reaching its graphical and processing limit, making it not only very hard to play current games but also to record any videos. Even titles that normally run quite well, if on medium settings, will become incredibly sluggish should I dare to open XSplit or some other recording/broadcasting software.
But that’s about to change as I’m getting an Alienware today. It’s massive, it’s powerful and I’ll probably will have to feed it the souls of the corrupt and vile to power it. It’s most certainly going to send my electricity bill to the stratospheric levels, but who cares? It’s well worth it!
With the Area 51 computer installed, and with everything moved from one computer to the new one, I can go back to recording games and most importantly, return to that very fun activity that is broadcasting on Twitch. Starting next week, I’ll be live on the Lawful Geek channel Tuesdays and Thursdays for now. I would love to do more streams, and I will most likely do the occasional weekend one, but I need time to run this site, record videos and just have some free time for myself, otherwise I’d be well on my way to a nervous breakdown!
What will I be playing though, that’s the important question. Well, I’m thinking of starting my Twitch broadcasts with a mix of The Witcher 3 expansions, since I will now play Geralt in a frame-rate that doesn’t remind people of Ray Harryhausen stop-motion animation, Overwatch because I freaking love it, Fatal Frame 2 Wii Edition and of course, World of Warcraft. With the new PC I’ll be able to broadcast our ongoing raids, so you can see just how much of a screw-up I am!
With Overwatch I’ll probably keep it light until Season 3 kicks off. I didn’t take part in the second season of competitive mode, because of this whole computer thing, but I really want to get back to it. Though considering that quick-play now follows the same rules as competitive, with the hero restriction, I could also do some of that. I want us to have a good time and sadly the Overwatch community, in competitive mode, can go from polite to raging lunatic in about 10 seconds flat!
On the recording/YouTube side of things, we’ll have 3 major series going on:
- Shadowrun: Fool’s Gold – My RPG campaign, which will start later this month. The game we played of Era: The Consortium taught me a lot about editing RPG games to add some nice animations for dice rolling and results.
- Xenoblade Chronicles X – Due to me not backing up the saves of one Nintendo profile before I deleted it, I lost all my progress in this glorious title, so I’ll be doing a series of it. Mind you, it’s gonna be a long one and include a lot of faffing about with hundreds of side-quests, though I’ll make sure to edit out some of the grinding for item drops, unless it’s a special one that only appears in one spot of the map or something.
- Final Fantasy IV – One of my favourite titles, I already recorded some of this and will get to editing it soon. Had to do some magic because it’s that strange type of ported game where the cutscenes and gameplay are essentially two different processes (apps, essentially) on Windows. So I have to switch between one and the other before and after a cinematic.
Aside from that, I’m planning on buying and playing through the different Kingdom Hearts releases coming soon and if things go my way, I’ll have a fun co-host, someone who loves all things Kingdom Hearts.
And lastly for YouTube videos, we have Gunpla. Last week I wrote a primer on Gundam models on GeekOut South-West, you should check it out. And as you know, I recently finished my first model. I want to do many more and I just received a new one, so I’ll record the crafting process so you can see the work that goes into it. It’s pretty easy but time-consuming, but I hope you’ll enjoy it! Just in case, the model is another Freedom Gundam from Gundam SEED, but a new version released earlier this year, with better mobility and overall design!
