Let’s Play – D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die

D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die is a point & click adventure game developed by Access Games, the developers of Deadly Premonition, a game I’ve been trying to play for a while now. It puts you in control of retired Boston detective and now Private Investigator David Young, “The Detective who Investigates the Past,” a title that doesn’t make much sense when you consider that all detectives investigate the past, things that have happened. He left the force after the death of his wife at the hands of the man called “D” in a case related to the latest drug on the market, “Real Blood.” Since then he’s been obsessed with solving her murder.

What his ludicrous title doesn’t explain is that he can use emotionally charged items to dive into the past and re-live it. He doesn’t replace the owner of the item but instead just appears out of nowhere, much to everyone’s surprise.

The first season released on PC this year and only now did I have a chance to play it. The season consists of two episodes and a prologue, and it ends on a cliffhanger without even advancing the plot a bit. There are tonal inconsistencies in every aspect of the game and the mechanics are insane.

In fact, insane is a way to describe this game. It makes very little sense when you play it and the more you do, the less sense it makes. But you know, as completely demented as the game is, I was getting a liking for it and investing in this kooky plot and character (up to and including the cat-girl in the Playboy bunny outfit…and I’m not making that up, trust me) but then the game suddenly ends.

But I’ll let you make up your minds about it on your own with my Let’s Play. This was recorded during my Twitch stream so if you hear me talking about something other than the game, I was talking to someone in chat.

  1. This is a weird little game. I haven’t tried it yet, but I might end up giving it a shot.

When you talk the game sound disappears. Did you know that?

      1. Oh… I just turn the game volume down so I can easily speak over it, but this is good too. It was a little distracting, but I got used to it eventually :].

      2. Send me an email through the contact page and I’ll get back to you with the info on the software I use for that
