Dead Space Scarethrough

It’s that time again. Time for you to see me shiver & scream playing horror games. This time we’re playing one of my favourites, Dead Space, the first in the series and the best of the 3 (so far) in terms of horror. In Dead Space you play as Isaac Clarke, and Engineer part of a repair & rescue operation on the Planet Cracker Class Spaceship, The USG Ishimura. The last contact received from the ship was a distress signal while “cracking” the planet Aegis VII. Clarke has another reason for going, his girlfriend, Nicole, serves on the Ishimura as a medical officer.

Sadly the trip doesn’t go smoothly, with your ship, the Kellion, crashing into the Ishimura’s docking bay, leaving you stranded on the planet cracker, with no other option but to investigate what happened and repair it, so you can get back home…

Things go to hell fairly quickly…but I won’t say anything else.

The game is divided in “chapters”, and I played chapters 1-3, one for each of the guys at 1001up.com, because it’s about time we see Craig, Phil AND Kim all take a shot at a game, and each of them taking on 1 chapter is the perfect way to do it.

I ran into a little problem on the first try. On chapter 2, I fell through the environment and got stuck in a lift shaft, so I had to quit. But I came back and finished that chapter and continued recording the last chapter.

On the 6th video you’ll see me asking a question in the end, and I’ll write it down for you: Do you think darkness is necessary for horror to be effective? We all know it helps, but is it indispensable for horror to work? Or do you feel horror, when done right, can scare you no matter the time of day or lighting conditions? Leave your replies in the comments, I’m very interested to know!

Now, let’s get on with it!

I love everything readable, writeable, playable and of course, edible! I search for happiness, or Pizza, because it's pretty much the same thing! I write and ramble on The Mental Attic and broadcast on my Twitch channel, TheLawfulGeek
